We are searching for a long term substitute teacher, whose responsibilities would include teaching grades Pre-K, Kindergarten and Grade 1. Candidates will be asked to deliver content across the curriculum, including Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science. The ideal substitute teacher will be able to manage classroom behavior, quickly interpret lesson plans and maintain reports to inform the students’ permanent teacher of their success. The candidate must be flexible and enjoy teaching.
Qualified Applicants:
- Have an earned Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field and have experience with students grades Pk - 1
- A minimum of one year successful experience working with age group
- Successful experience working as part of a team
Duties and Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
- Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, during recess and outdoors, as needed or requested
- Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
- For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans
- Ability to adapt curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects are being worked on simultaneously
- Significant use of technology while delivering the curriculum and content, including (but not limited to):
- Use of the Google Suite across multiple devices
- Use of Student Information System (Alma)
- Respect and value individual differences and diversity; model non-discriminatory practices in all activities
- Maintain standards of student behavior for a positive and productive learning environment
- Collaborate with peers to plan activities and monitor student progress
- Work with a team of educators to create a positive learning environment
- Adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Have a positive attitude that is used to build relationships with students quickly and to establish respect in the classroom
- Ability to work with other Lower School teachers to maintain and order materials
A Massachusetts teaching certificate is a plus, but not required. All employees are subject to a fingerprint check and a background investigation, per state law.
Working conditions for this position may include standing, sitting, bending, lifting, being outside in cold or hot weather.
